Philosophy
Sally Markley describes her art therapy philosophy as
a chance to explore and express thoughts, emotions, memories
and dreams. It is a chance to honor who you are. While
creating art there is no wrong way and respect and safety
are emphasized. It may take courage to begin, but usually
the most difficult part is finding a stopping point. After
completing artwork, participants are encouraged to take
time to silently reflect on their creations or observe
others working. In group settings participants often share
their experiences and learn from each other. Participants
are always encouraged to establish a sense of safety within
the group. Art captures a moment in time and can be an
evolving process as the creations continue to inspire.
